New Delhi/Jaipur, Jan 19 (IBNS): Ruling Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) exchanged barbs on Saturday after senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said members of India's main opposition are fighting like 'cats and dogs'.

Criticising the BJP, Aiyar told reporters: "They (BJP) should announce candidates. They are fighting like cats and dogs."

Referring to the ongoing ´Chintan Shivir´ of the Congress party in Jaipur, Aiyar said: "We are having our ´Chintan Shivir´ here, they can´t hold a ´Shivir´ like this because they are the puppets of RSS ( Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh). What will they think?"

Pertinently, the RSS is the ideological patron of the BJP.

Aiyar said he would like to see Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as National Democratic Alliance (NDA)´s Prime Ministerial candidate as it will ensure the Congress win in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

"I expect that Modi will become their leader. In case he becomes their leader then the NDA will collapse and we will automatically win the elections without contesting it," Aiyar said.

BJP leader Kirti Azad slammed Aiyar for his remarks and said his statement showed he was ´mentally unstable´.

"It is unfortunate. This statement shows that he is mentally unstable. Today he said the BJP are fighting like cats and dogs. I mean what if I say that all Congress members are pets of a single family. What will he say to that?" Azad told media.
