BJP to suspend Shatrughan Sinha?

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might suspend its leader Shatrughan Sinha who supported senior leaders Ram Jethmalani and Yashwant Sinha on their demand for party president Nitin Gadkari's resignation over alleged corruption charges against him, media reports said.

The BJP on Sunday suspended the 86-year-old lawyer-turned-politician Ram Jethmalani after he had taken on the party over the issue of the appointment of the new CBI chief, writing a letter to BJP president Nitin Gadkari and saying the government's decision had averted a "national calamity".

Meanwhile, BJP leaders will meet on Monday evening to decide if Jethmalani should be expelled from the party.

The decision on Shatrughan Sinha might be taken during the meet, media reports quoting sources said.

Adding more pressure on Gadkari, Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday said he was 'ideologically' with the two senior BJP leaders on the issue.

Speaking to reporters, Shatrughan Sinha said: "The issue raised by them should be looked at seriously."

He said decision on this matter should be taken 'swiftly'.

The party might give Yashwant Sinha another chance to withdraw his statement against Gadkari.

India's main opposition party faced embarrassments over the issue of its president Gadkari from within as Jethmalani and Yashwant Sinha demanded that the party chief should step down over business malpractice charges.

Jethmalani revolted openly against the party leadership saying Gadkari must step down as the president of the outfit till a probe into the corruption charges against him cleared him.

Pertinently, at a press conference he also had claimed that other senior leaders like Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha and Shatrughan Sinha shared his views on Gadkari's removal.
