The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday welcomed the Gujarat's special court decision, which pronounced its verdict in the Ode massacre case of post-Godhra riots, in which 23 persons belonging to minority community were burnt to death.
"Today the decision of court came. It is a victory of people of Gujarat. Justice is done in Gujarat," BJP leader Balbir Punj told media.
"It is the slap on the face of those people who said justice cannot be done in Gujarat. Today every Indian must be proud that fair justice happened in Gujarat," he added.
The court has convicted 23 people in the case and has acquitted 23 for want of evidence. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence later.
The massacre took place when a mob attacked a house on March 1, 2002 at Ode village in Gujarat's Anand District. Altogether 23 persons, mostly women and children, were killed in the incident.
Ode massacre was one amongst the nine post-Godhra riot cases investigated by the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigating Team (SIT). (ANI)
