Kolkata: The verdict is out: Trinamool Congress has won the semifinal.
The crucial civic polls to 81 municipalities, including the prestigious Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), seen as a semifinal to the 2011 assembly polls, went in favour of Trinamool Congress with the party wresting the prestigious KMC with convincing lead and also snatching Bidhannagar, the upscale statellite residential township of Kolkata tucked between the city and the airport and an emerging hub of Information Technology.
According to the final result, besides KMC and Bidhannagar, Trinamool won 25 municipalities, Left Front won 16, Congress won 7 while as many as 31 municipalities produced hung results.
Trinamool Congress workers erupted in wild jubilations playing with abir and dancing on the streets.
