The world famous activist has begun the process of appealing against the strange life imprisonment judgement he was awarded by a district court.
His lawyer said he was confident that the sentence would be successfully challenged. But no one thought Binayak would ever be convicted. So, maybe, the lawyer should only count his reprieve when and if it hatches.
Meanwhile, small and large groups are banding together across the world to criticize India and demand that the country free Binayak Sen immediately.
Home Minister P Chidambaram summed up the government's attitude. He said that if there were anybody who was discontent over the judgement, he or she should file an appeal. Perhaps, the Minister is guessing on the efficiency the courts and maybe expects never to hear about this appeal again.
