Gautam Gambhir proved to be indispensable on the fifth day of the third Test match between India and South Africa.
He defied a painful elbow injury to steady India's batting line up, scoring a solid 64 runs to give India a comfortable draw. India finished the series 1-1.
It was a difficult series for the Indians. One humiliating loss and one thrilling win seemed to be all the excitement they could stand and they ensured that the last match ended in a draw, not even pretending to try and win it at any time.
Still, it was a sensible decision and India can retain its number one position in Test. What more can we ask.
