Binayak Sen granted bailBinayak Sen, the famous activist jailed for his alleged links with Maoists was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday.
While the final appeal against the life-sentence he was awarded earlier is still pending, the move shows that at least a few in the establishment believe that Binayak Sen has been unjustly and harshly vindicated for his highly open stand against systematic cruelty by the CRPF and the police force in Maoist or Naxal hit areas.
While his actual links to Maoists is uncertain (many more activists have visited and interviewed terrorists without any repercussion) his bail is being hailed by liberals in India a step towards sanity.
Predictably the BJP has said that it hopes the case would still be fairly tried on its merits, despite the bail application being granted and the Left has hailed the event.
Home Ministry Chidambaram meanwhile said that he was glad of the decision, although one wonders why he didn't feel strongly enough to support Binayak Sen more openly before. After all he is the Home Minister of India, which establishment is he afraid of?
Let us hope that the claims of his sedition are proven false and we can stop the persecution of a leading Indian activist.
However, despite the whitewash that liberals seem to wish everyone in India to accept blindly, there is a possibility that Binayak Sen did have wrongful links with Maoists.
If such a fact is true then it should not be ignored for the sake of liberal views. Let us not forget that the Naxals and the Maoists are cold-blooded and heartless murderers.
