Sri Krishna Committee Report
The Sri Krishna Committee handed over its two-volume report to the Central Government on Thursday. The report contains the committee’s finding and suggestions on the volatile Telangana issue.
We will only know of its contents by January 6, 2011, when the report is due to be made public.
A member of the committee has said that they have given 'a way forward', Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao declared that Telangana would be achieved come what may and the Congress announced that while it was not opposed to the creation of small states, it would first go through the report and then consult all parties before implementing any decisions. So feel free to pick whichever side/angle that attracts you most.
There are many such demands for the creation of a new, smaller state from a bigger one. Whatever the recommendation of the committee turns out to be, it will definitely set a precedent for the future creation of states in the Indian Union.
