In the middle of the turmoil that onions and the CBI created, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited the country almost silently.
The Russian visit was low-key as it was part of a scheduled annual visit to India. Once again, the focus was mostly on trade although several military deals were also signed.
Medvedev confirmed Russian reluctance to the Indian nuclear scene. He said that Russia felt that the current rules in India put too much risk on the supplier and backed off from making any firm decisions on the matter.
On the international front, Russia and India agreed to help each other in Afghanistan as well.
A more firm show of support to India, especially against China, would have been much appreciated.
