U.S. Vice President Joe Biden brightened prospects of President Barack Obama's second round of debate, after he came out on top of a spar with his Republican party opponent for the November elections Paul Ryan on Thursday.

Following a performance by Obama that was seen as largely passive against a resurgent Mitt Romney last week in the first primetime debate before the Nov. 6 election, the Democrat campaign needed a boost that was provided aptly Biden, observers said.

Despite some criticism for his frequent chuckles and grins, Biden's spirited performance and careful fact-checking was seen as a better one compared to Ryan's who often found himself getting drubbed over factually inaccurate claims.

While immediate post-debate polls put Thursday night´s matchup largely at a draw, subsequent feedback polls set the advantage with Biden for taking on Ryan decisively on issues ranging from abortion to foreign policy and the economy.
