CISF personnel to protect merchant vessels against piracy

Minister of State for Home Affairs R.P.N. Singh today informed that the government has a proposal to deploy CISF on a cost reimbursement basis, on requests of the Indian Merchant Ships in view of the reported piracy/hijacking/abduction cases off the coast of Somalia.

"The proposal is at preliminary stage and no details/modalities have been finalized till date. At present there is no proposal to extend such facilities to the foreign merchant ships," he said in written reply to a question by B.B.Patil, Anand Prakash Paranjpe, Eknath M.Gaikwad and Sanjay Bhoi in the Lok Sabha today.
