New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Thursday is expected to discuss a new draft of the Lokpal Bill with amendments proposed by the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha, where the bill is pending since last year.

The government on Tuesday had agreed to the committee's two key recommendations of delinking state Lokayukta from Central legislation and the appointment of the Director of Prosecution by the Central Vigilance Commission or CVC.

The amendments up for discussion on Thursday include allowing bureaucrats undergoing an investigation to have a right to fight their case and bringing all NGOs except for religious organisations under Lokpal jurisdiction.

Earlier this week, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had written to social activist Anna Hazare assuring him that the legislation would be passed in the coming budget session of parliament.
