Chautala supporters protest outside court

Indian National Lok Dal President Om Prakash Chautala's supporters protested outside a Delhi court on Thursday as the leader arrived for hearing of arguments on his sentencing in a case related to the Junior Basic Trained (JBT) teachers recruitment scam.

A day after Chautala was convicted in the case, his supporters created chaos as he arrived in the court in a jail van.

His supporters, who were seen holding party flags, climbed on the jail van and stopped it, reports said.

Chautala´s supporters stood outside the court lock-up where the leader along with other accused were lodged.

Amid chaos, the supporters shouted slogans against the authorities as the police tried to disperse them from the spot.

During the hearing, the judge did not allow anyone else to enter the court room apart from all the accused, their counsel, prosecutors and court staff.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here on Wednesday convicted former Haryana Chief MInister Chautala and his son Ajay Chautala in the JBT teachers recruitment scam.

The court also convicted 53 others in connection with the illegal recruitment of more than 3000 JBT teachers in Haryana.

Chautala and others were taken into custody.

The court will pronounce the quantum of the sentence in the case on Jan 22.

The court has framed charges against the accused under sections 467 (forgery), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), reports said.

Pertinently, six accused, out of the total 62 accused, died during the trial.

The court has discharged one of the accused while framing charges.

The scam is connected to the illegal recruitment of more than 3,000 JBT teachers during Chautala´s tenure in 1999-2000.

The CBI had filed chargesheet few years back and alleged that Chautalas had used forged documents to recruit the teachers.
