Congress achieves a hat-trick in Assam

Guwahati: The Congress is all set to form the government in Assam for the third straight term with the main opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reduced to smithereens with even their respective party presidents losing the polls.

Of the 21 of 126 constituencies for which results were declared so far, the Congress had won 17 seats and the AGP, the BJP, Asom United Democratic Front (AUDF) and the Bodoland People's Party (BPF) had one seat each.
