The Congress on Wednesday suspended Himachal Pradesh MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary who was booked by Haryana Police in connection to a murder case.
The party also removed him from the post of party general secretary.
Announcing Chaudhary´s suspension, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu told TNN: "Party has decided to adopt zero tolerance policy in cases of crime against women and so we have suspended Ram Kumar from party and also removed him as general secretary."
Chaudhary, who was absconding ever since his name emerged in a murder case, on Jan 8 surrendered in a Panchkula court in Haryana.
The police had booked Chaudhary and three others in connection to the murder of a girl, Jyoti, who was found dead at Panchkula district in Haryana on Nov 22.
The court remanded the Congress MLA to police custody that was extended till Jan 18.
The post-mortem report of Jyoti said she died of head injuries and had an abortion recently.
Pertinently, Chaudhary´s role in the case came under scanner after the investigation of Jyoti´s mobile phone call details, reports said.
A Panchkula court last month rejected Chaudhary´s anticipatory bail plea.
