
A police sub inspector was killed as members of the student wings of ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress clashed at Harimohan Ghose College in Kolkata's Garden Reach on Tuesday, police said.
Sub-Inspector Tapas Choudhury was killed while four other students were injured in the incident.
He allegedly died in the firing by an anti-social identifed as Muktar.
According to reports, clashes between supporters of Chhatra Parishad (CP) and Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) broke out when leaders from both the sides were filing nomination papers for upcoming students' union election
Some miscreants carried guns and attacked the police.
West Bengal Urban Development Minister and Trinamool leader Firhad Hakim reached the area after the incident and said the police have been asked to take actions against those responsible for it.
While the opposition said the gunman is a Trinamool Congress activist, Hakim alleged that the killer identified as Muktar is now a Congress activist after joining the party from CPI-M.
