Chennai, Feb 4 (IANS) The Indian subsidiary of German auto giant Daimler AG Monday announced the setting up of 300 KW solar power project on the rooftop of its warehouse at a plant near here.

In a statement issued here, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (DICV) said a 300 KW solar power project on the roof of its parts logistics warehouse has been set up at an outlay of around Rs.4 crore.

A company official told IANS that the solar power project will take care of 2.8 percent of the company's power consumption.

He said the focus on solar power began last year in line with Daimler's global focus towards green energy for captive consumption.

"This is also in-line with DICV's initiative to create better self-sufficiency in power that reduces dependency on conventional power. DICV will enhance its focus on new and renewable energies," the statement said.

The solar power plant will be synchronised with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO) soon, an official said.

The power produced will be adjusted against the six percent Solar Purchase obligations (SPO) which is mandated by the state government as per the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy 2012.
