Gurgaon, March 3 (IANS) The Congress party's Gurgaon MP and former union minister Rao Inderjit Singh Sunday announced the formation of a front to counter the "step-motherly treatment" meted out to southern Haryana by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

By launching the 'Haryana Insaaf Manch' (HIM) at a rally at Pataudi, 25 km from here, Inderjit Singh Sunday took a step forward in setting up a new regional party in Haryana.

He announced a "fight for justice" for the people of south Haryana at the massive "insaaf" (justice) rally.

Happy with the unexpectedly large crowd at the rally, Singh highlighted Hooda's alleged prejudice against Ahirwal (south Haryana) and announced that, in future, rallies would be organised under HIM banner all over the state.

The Ahirwal belt stretches across Gurgaon, Rewari, Mewat, Mahendergarh and Bhiwani districts.

Singh alleged that dedicated Congress workers have been sidelined for the last one decade. Hooda, he claimed, was biased against development works in south Haryana and was fuelling factionalism within the party organisation.

Inderjit Singh has gone on record as having said that Hooda's home district, Rohtak, represented in the Lok Sabha by Hooda's son, Deepender Hooda, got 1,237 projects since 2005 (when Hooda became chief minister), compared to only 69 for Gurgaon.

For Haryana, the industrial and commercial belt of Gurgaon-Manesar is a goldmine, accounting for nearly 55 percent of the state's total revenue, he pointed out.

The people present in the rally, including women in large numbers, welcomed the move by Singh. Several Congress district presidents and prominent leaders were also present in the rally.

Inderjit Singh was first elected to the Lok Sabha as a member of parliament in 1998. He was member of parliament during 1998-1999, 2000-2004, and 2004-2009.

He was minister of state for external affairs (2004-2006) and minister of state for defence production (2006-2009).

Since 2009 he has chaired the parliamentary committee on information technology. Inderjit Singh was elected four times as an MLA in Haryana since 1977. From 1991 to 1996 he served as a cabinet minister for environment and forests in Haryana.
