Delhi Diary: Jethmalani`s April 1 joke

Jethmalani’s April 1 jokeelection

Getting an early listing for a case in Supreme Court is a task which even senior lawyers dread. Last week, noted jurist Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, was heard complaining to the Chief Justice of India about a case pertaining to Lalu’s disproportionate assets being listed in April despite the Court assuring him a date in March. When the CJI agreed to list the matter on April 1, Jethmalani, never one for a loss for words, quipped, “I hope 1st April does not mean what it means!” The courtroom erupted in laughter.
