Delhi Diary: Why dog turns a hot term for Marxists

Marxists' mutt mania

''Often accused of dogmatism, the Marxists in India seem to have developed a dog mania  of late, ''said a BJP member in Parliament's Central Hall recently.

He was referring to a translation error in CPI (M)'s mouthpiece 'Deshabhimani' daily, which headlined a foreign news agency report about hotdog eating competition in the US as 'Man eats 68 dogs in 10 minutes, sets record!'

When a Left MP tried to make it light as a printer's devil, the BJP member was quick to refer to CPI (M) leader and Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan's outburst when he was not allowed entry into the house of slain NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan after the Mumbai terror attack: 'Even a dog would not have visited you but for the incident.'

''It is not a coincidence that Achuthanandan and his rival Pinayari Vijayan have been calling each other as canines,'' the BJP MP quipped.
