After a fierce gun battle with a gang of cattle lifters, the Delhi Police gunned down an accused and arrested four others to rescue five livestock on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off that cattle have been lifted from a locality in northwestern Delhi, police soon caught up with the vehicle in which the offenders were escaping in the early hours of Saturday.
"Five people were arrested from the crime scene. All five of them were taken to the nearest hospital at the earliest and they were given the best possible medical aid. One of the accused, who was shot in the head, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and the remaining four are being interrogated. We also recovered five cattle from the crime scene," said Tajender Luthra, Joint Commissioner of Delhi police.
"They move in vehicles like the Tata 407 and they have a gang of nearly eight to ten people. Their main task is cattle lifting, cows or buffalos, whatever they can find," he added.
He also motioned that the police had been monitoring the movements of this gang for the past few days and had increased it's patrolling at night to nab the offenders. (ANI)
