A day after the Delhi gang-rape victim succumbed to her injuries at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital, another shocking incident of molestation took place in a Delhi bus last night.
A girl was allegedly molested by two conductors inside a cluster bus near Delhi's Mandi House. The incident happened on bus route number 410, which was going from Khayala to Lajpatnagar. A case of molestation has been registered in Barakhamba Road police station.
Delhi Government, which has been forced on the backfoot over the December 16 gang-rape in a moving bus, has suspended the driver and the two conductors of the cluster bus in connection with Saturday night's molestation case.
"We have received a complaint of molestation on (bus) route number 410 which was going from Khayala to Jalvihar, Lajpatnagar. Police is conducting its inquiry in the case. We have also taken a firm action and dismissed the driver and the two conductors. The owner of the bus is also be inquired. The government will take firm action in this case," Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami said.
Goswami said the Delhi Government is taking firm steps to ensure that incidents such as these do not happen again.
"It was not a night service. Through GPS, we came to know that the bus left from Khayala at around 10: 31 p.m. It had to reach Jalvihar, but the bus was diverted to a different route. We are also inquiring about it. They are saying that the roads linking to India Gate were closed down, so they took a different route," said Goswami.
"When the bus did not reach its final destination by 12 (mid-night), then our officers through GPS got to know the exact location of the bus. We came to know later that the bus is at Connaught Place Police Station and our officers took immediate action," he added.
The Transport Minister further informed that home guards would be deployed on buses to ensure that the female passengers feel safe and that no untoward incident takes place.
This incident of molestation has taken place at a time when the nation is mourning the death of the 23-year-old medical student, who was brutally gang-raped on a moving bus in South Delhi on the night of December 16. (ANI)
