Devotees take holy dip at Golden Temple to mark festival of Makar Sankranti

Hundreds of Sikh devotees visited at Golden Temple here took holy dip and offer prayer on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Sunday.

Devotees were seen braving the cold weather and lining up in long queues outside the temple to pay obeisance at the shrine.

"It is a very auspicious day as we are celebrating Makar Sankranti. People from across the country come and offer prayers here so that the rest of the year is prosperous for them," said Harminder Singh, a devotee.

"Today the people have come here for prayers and remember their brave religious leaders. Devotees offer prayers to seek blessings from god," said Jasveer Singh, another devotee.

On the occasion of Makar Sakranti, preparation of 'Khichdi' made of sesame seeds, jaggery, rice, pulses and turmeric is eaten and also offered to the poor. (ANI)
