Dikshit wants regulation of e−rickshaws

New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday sought a regulatory framework for the battery−powered rickshaws, also known as e−rickshaws, whose numbers have been rising in the city.

She held talks on the issue with Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami.

"Dikshit underlined the need for formulating a feasible regulatory framework for e−rickshaws keeping in view the safety concern and the rickshaws being non−polluting," said a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

"The rising number of e−rickshaws may create difficulties at the later stage," it added.

The e−rickshaws are at present not covered under the Motor Vehicles Act.
