Drug ring busted in UAE

Dubai, Jan 16 (IANS/WAM) Anti-narcotics police teams in the UAE have busted a gang of notorious drug traffickers in an operation dubbed "Desert Fox", Dubai Police said.

Maj. Gen. Abdul Jalil Mahdi, director of the anti-narcotics department of Dubai Police, said forces from Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi worked together to smash the three-member ring.

Police received a tip-off that one drug trafficker, in his 50s, was planning to deliver narcotics. He was caught red-handed during the delivery in Faqaa area of Dubai.

The 40-year-old second man was arrested in Sharjah. He confessed to have handed 25 kg of hashish to the first man. He also admitted to have contacts in Pakistan.

The third man, in his 30s, was arrested in Abu Dhabi. On searching his car, police found one kg of hashish he bought from the first man.

Mahdi said the three UAE nationals face charges of possessing and peddling in drugs.
