New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS) Education is the key to making people understand the need to stabilise population, say experts.

"We want people to make choices. We don't want to look at numbers. We want to look at people. Let us now focus on the main strategy for young people and adolescents and family planning," said Frederika Meijer, representative of the United Nations Population Fund, at a seminar on population organised by the Public Health Foundation Tuesday.

Justice Leila Seth, governing board member, Public Health Foundation, said education was the key solution to all the issues related to reproductive health and family planning.

"We must educate our young breed to overcome these problems," she said.

Keshav Desiraju, secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said if assured medical health was provided, it would lead to a decline in the family size.

Anuradha Gupta, mission director, National Rural Health Mission, said: "With newfound courage, the government after a long time stood up. We're not going to look at the past and we are going to look at the whole picture".
