Cairo, Feb 26 (IANS) Ahmed Aba Ya Zeed, a university student, has won a trip to India, thanks to a poster competition organised here.
Prizes have been distributed to the winners and participants of the poster competition themed "Did you sense the spirit of Gandhi in Tahrir Square?" organised jointly by the embassy of India in Cairo and the Artistic Creativity Centre.
The competition was aimed at capturing the essence of Gandhi's message in the iconic Tahrir Square that witnessed a peaceful revolution Jan 25, 2011.
Ahmed Aba Ya Zeed, the winner of the special grand prize, said he is excited about his trip to India, said a press release.
The other winners in the competition include Amre Sha'lan (first prize winner), Youssef Da'moum (second prize winner) and Rehab Ahmed Gouda (third prize winner) in the enior category.
In the school's section, Mazen Abdallah Ali bagged the first prize, while the second was won by Zeinab Hossam El Din. The third prize was shared by two children: Raghda Moataz Mohamed and Sarah Ragab Hussein.
Egyptian actor Khaled El Nabawi, Egyptian artist Mohamed Abla and Indian Ambassador Navdeep Suri were among those who were present at the function.
Suri praised the initiative taken by artist Mohamed Abla for hosting the winner of the grand prize from India for one week at Fayoum Arts Centre, which he founded.
"The winner of the grand prize from Egypt will meet the winner of the grand prize from India and he will spend a week at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. He will also visit Gandhi Ashram in Ahmadabad," Suri said.
