New Delhi: The national capital Monday recorded eight new dengue cases, taking the total number of people affected by the mosquito-borne disease to 1,087, a health department official said.

'Delhi on Monday recorded eight new cases of dengue. The severity of the spread of the disease is now much lesser than past weeks,' Debashish Bhattacharya, state nodal officer for dengue cases in Delhi, said.

Until now there have been two confirmed deaths because of dengue in the city - one of a 15-year-old boy and the other of a nine-year-old boy.

According to the health department, the number of dengue cases will go down in the coming days since the carrier-mosquitoes causing the disease cannot breed in temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius.
