New Delhi, Dec 7 (IANS) The government Friday won the vote on FDI in retail by a margin of 21 in the Rajya Sabha, officials said after a recount sought by the government.
They said that 225 members of the effective strength of 244 of the house participated in voting on the opposition sponsored motion against foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail.
They said that 102 members voted in favour of the motion and 123 against it and 19 members did not vote.
"There were 102 votes in favour of the motion and 123 against," an official told IANS.
They the 19 members who did not vote included nine who had staged a walkout.
Earlier, the chair had announced that subject to corrections, opposition-backed motion against FDI in retail got 109 votes while the government got 123 votes.
