First phase of polling peaceful in West Bengal

Polling proceeded peacefully and steadily in the first phase of the West Bengal elections on Monday with 32 percent turnout recorded till noon in the 54 constituencies spread across six northern districts, officials said.

However, there was a vote boycott in six polling booths of Malda district and two others in South Dinajpur district on local issues, said Joint Chief Electoral Officer Dibyendu Sarkar.
