Khartoum, Jan 16 (IANS) Four Chinese workers who were abducted Jan 12 in Sudan's Darfur region have been released, the Chinese embassy here said Wednesday.

The four Chinese were released and handed to the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), an embassy official told Xinhua.

Despite the release of the workers, the Chinese embassy asked all Chinese companies and Chinese nationals in Sudan to exercise maximum caution and not to go to "dangerous and disturbed areas", the official said.

Mohamed Suleiman Rabih, commissioner of Kuma in North Darfur, said state authorities have arrested some people from a rebel faction that was responsible for kidnapping the Chinese workers.

The freed Chinese workers "are in good health", he said.

The commissioner said efforts were on to ensure the release of five Sudanese who worked for the Chinese company entrusted with building a highway.
