Girl death: Gadkari, Sushma call for reforms

Condoling the death of Delhi gangrape victim, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said it was time to bring in stricter police and judicial reforms in order deal with crime against women in the country.

"The death of the gangrape victim is highly unfortunate and the entire country is shocked. We need to introspect as to why did a heinous crime like this occurred," Gadkari told media.

"It is time also to bring in stricter police and judicial reforms," he said.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said: "Her death has shaken the conscience of the nation. We must wake up and make India safe for daughters."

The 23-year-old Delhi girl, whose brutal gang-rape on a moving bus on Dec 16 triggered nationwide protests, died in a hospital in Singapore early on Saturday (Indian time 2-15 am) after her vital organs failed.
