New Delhi: A call centre employee was stabbed to death by a man in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Neha Yadav, 20.
The incident occurred at around 5 pm on Monday when Neha was returning home with a male colleague named Gaurav.
The accused, who was identified as Devender, intercepted their car and stopped his motorcycle in front of it.
He asked Neha to step out of the car before starting a heated argument with Gaurav. He also smashed the car's window with his helmet, the police said.
"Gaurav quickly opened the car door and ran to a policeman he had just spotted on the opposite side of the road for help," Hindustan Times reported.
"In the process, Devender stabbed him (Gaurav) in the cheek but he managed to get away even as Neha jumped to stop the accused. But Devender was able to push her back before stabbing her in the stomach several times," Hindustan Times reported quoting an officer investigating the case.
Neha, along with Gaurav, was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Gaurav could not give a statement to the police due to his injury.
The police have arrested Devender from the spot of the incident.
According to reports, Devender was in love with Neha and was jealous of her friendship with Gaurav.
