Panaji, Jan 26 (IBNS) Series of attacks on women and children in the state and some other parts of the country has disturbed Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo as it reflected in his Republic Day speech on Saturday.

"I feel concerned that the morbid mentality and brutal behaviour among some people, is assuming alarming proportions. People with sick and neurotic minds are perpetrating heinous crimes on our innocent women and children in some parts of the country including Goa," Wanchoo said addressing the gathering after hoisting the national flag at Campal ground.

He remarked that those involved in heinous crimes and brutality be punished under the law.

"This needs to be arrested to save our national dignity and ensure the security of our women and children," he added.

In the last over a fortnight, more than a dozen incidents of crime against women and children have taken place with two cases of sodomy and brutal rape of a seven-year-old in a school toilet at Vasco.
Meanwhile, the state government, he announced, has framed a scheme of Rs one lakh to encourage Goan youths to join the armed forces.
