Panaji, Feb 1 (IANS) Concerned over crimes against women, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Friday said the state has evolved a special set-up to monitor the trials of cases of sex crimes.

Among measures to ensure speedy justice, Parrikar said his government has already issued instructions to courts to ensure daily hearings.

"We are working out a separating monitoring set-up which will keep an eye on certain cases relating to sexual harassment of women in buses, sexual harassment at workplace, molestation, rape, etc," he said.

Parrikar said the daily hearings of sex-related cases could be held at a fixed time from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. even if it meant paying the judges for overtime.

"Can we work out a mechanism by which fast punishment can be delivered? We can fix an extra time slot, i.e. between 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. We will pay the judge extra for the time. All such cases can be tried on day-to-day basis. I will speak to the high court about this," Parrikar said.

His system would also involve keeping track of repeat-sex crime offenders as well as follow up investigations and other measures that would achieve faster and higher rate of conviction.
