It is our favourite colour after Silver and Bronze
In India nothing shines like the colour of gold and the gold has flowed freely in the Commonwealth Games.
Shooters, wrestlers, archers and even and for the first time even swimmers and gymnasts gave Indian 38 medals (with 17 gold) and the tally is still being counted.
The shooters took the cream of the crop but every contribution was equally valued and (as is rare in India’s divided world of sports) equally hailed.
While it is true that the Australians have not only out paced us but appear to be in a separate contest altogether (against the very gods themselves apparently) taking 71 medals so far, we have also not been too shabby and hopes are high that the golden streak will continue.
Indeed, after everything that has happened, a little gold is going a long way to sooth our battered selves.
