Grenade launcher, 12 shells recovered in Assam

Guwahati: Security forces arrested two people, including a hardcore cadre of anti-talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), and recovered one hand grenade launcher and 12 grenade shells in Assam's Sonitpur district on Friday night, police said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Assam Police led by Sonitpur district DSP Gitanjalee Doley launched a search operation near Koliabhumura bridge of Brahmaputra river and recovered the arms from a Maruti Alto car (AS-05-B-7187).

"The arms were procured from Dimapur of Nagaland," a top police official said.

The police said they have seized the car, which was on its way to Barpeta Road from Dimapur and recovered the arms.

Security forces arrested two people including a NDFB cadre named Bipul Khaklari.

The other arrested person was identified as Chandradhar Bora, who was an ex home guard.

The police said they are interrogating the arrested people for collecting more information
