Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Jetha Bharwad has been arrested in connection to a firing incident during the second phase of the recently held assembly polls in Gujarat, police said on Saturday.
Bharwad was arrested on Friday on charges of attempt to murder and illegal use of arms after a Gujarat court rejected his plea for anticipatory bail, the police said.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the BJP MLA and nine others for their alleged involvement in the firing incident.
At least four people were injured when eight rounds were fired from the gun of Bharwad´s bodyguard at a poll booth in Tarsang village of the state on Dec 17.
The BJP MLA escaped from a hospital in Ahmedabad and was absconding since Dec 18, the police said.
Bharwad, who was injured during the incident on Dec 17, was brought to the hospital under detention with the police escort for CT-scan, reports said.
