Hang the rapists: Delhi rape victim's father

New Delhi: Moments after the Delhi Police on Thursday filed a charge-sheet against five men in the bus gangrape and murder case in a Saket court in the national capital, the father of the victim said the culprits should be hanged.

They should be hanged. We are happy with police action," the father of the girl who finally died in a Singapore hospital said.

"We are happy with the proceedings so far," he said.

Earlier the father of the girl said he has no objection to an anti-rape law in the country after the name of his daughter.

The voluminous chargesheet is against five men while a sixth one is a minor as per reports so far and hence a separate course of action would be initiated against him.

The chargesheet was filed in a sealed cover. There would be in camera court proceedings in a fast track court.

Once the metropolitan magistrate's court takes cognizance of the case, it will be transferred to a fast-track court that was inaugurated by India's Chief Justice Altamas Kabir on Wednesday.

The court will hold daily hearing in this case and have no adjournments.

Six people have been accused of raping and brutalizing a 23-year-old medical student in a moving bus. The victim succumbed to her injuries at a Singapore hospital on December 29. One of the accused is reportedly a minor.

Five of the accused are currently lodged in Tihar Jail, while the sixth is at a juvenile home.

Reports said they will not be present in court on Thursday.
