'I am working on my Hindi'

With the release of her debut film 'Aladin', Jacqueline Fernandez has made it clear that she is in Bollywood 'to stay'. In Kolkata to launch D'damas World Gold Council's new 'Fantasia' line of jewellery, the Sri Lankan beauty chats up with India Blooms correspondent Sreya Basu on her career and why she won't ever make her love life public.

You are the brand ambassador of D'damas Fantasia. Are you a jewellery person in real life?

I am not a jewellery freak, but I love wearing light jewellery…I can't even think of becoming a moving jewellery box all decked up with pounds of gold. That's why, I chose to be the brand ambassador of Fantasia, because this collection consists of light 18 carat jewellery pieces that are funky yet traditional...something my type.

Once you were quoted as saying-'I am made for glamour'. Are you very conscious about your looks?

I didn't mean that for sure (smiles). What I meant was that, since childhood I wanted to be an actor.  But I didn't get much scope in Bahrain (where I grew up) and Sri Lanka. I took up modeling, but that was not exactly what I wanted to do. Now, in India, I have got an opportunity to prove myself as an actor, though I never thought of becoming a Hindi film heroine.
