In an endeavour to encourage the habit of reading among youth in the northeast, a book fair was recently organized in Imphal.
Publishers from across the country set up some 100 stalls at Polo ground in Imphal to display an array of books and stationary items.
"It is very good for students to encourage for reading books and hope it will impart their knowledge," said Latakeshwor Singh, an organizer.
"We are displaying a number of books. Students, scholars, book lovers are happy and satisfied to get such books in this fair. We are getting a good response," M P Mishra, Director, Akansha Publications, New Delhi
A series of activities like painting competition, story reading, and symposium were also held during the fair.
The huge participation of people clearly reflects their interest and fondness for books.
"Publishers from many states have come to Manipur in the book fair. We get all the books, which are not available in Manipur. It's a good opportunity for us," said Umarani, a visitor.
The ten-day long book fair was organized by the State Central Library, Imphal in collaboration with Kolkata based Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation. (ANI)
