Mumbai: Noted celebrity chef and the lady who revolutionised Indian cooking, Tarla Dalal passed away on Wednesday morning.
According to a Mumbai newspaper, Dalal, in her late 70s, died of heart attack at 7 am today morning at her residence in South Mumbai.
Her first cook book 'The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking' was an instant success in 1974 and went on to become a classic in cookery books, and sold over 1,50,000 copies.
A household name specializing in vegetarian cuisine, Dalal penned over 100 cookery books which sold more than three million copies.
A widow, Dalal was 77 years old and is survived by three children. She leaves behind a legacy of over 17,000 recipes created by her. She was conferred the Padma Shri in 2007.
