India is expected to test the indigenous Advanced Air Defence (AAD) endo-atmospheric interceptor missile on Friday.
The missile test would be carried out on Wheeler Island in Odisha's Bhadrak District. It will target an incoming ballistic missile to be launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore.
The preparations are underway for the launch at both the sites. Senior defence scientists, including VK Saraswat, the chief of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the scientific advisor to Defence Minister AK Antony, are reportedly in the area to oversee the launch.
According to DRDO sources, a modified version of the surface-to-surface Prithvi Missile will be the hostile target. The interceptor missile would be launched from Wheeler Island, about 70 km across sea from Chandipur to destroy the target. (ANI)
