A South African man has been jailed for life for murdering Indian-origin bride Anni Dewani while she was on honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010.

South African Judge Robert Henney told Xolile Mngeni he had shot 28-year-old Anni down in a "callous, calculated and brutal manner".

But the judge added at Cape Town High Court that though Mngeni, 25, fired the lethal shot, the gunman had been hired to carry out a "contract killing," the Daily Express reports.

South African prosecutors have publicly accused the newlywed's husband Shrien, also of Indian origin, of orchestrating her killing.

Shrien, who denies plotting Anni's murder, is fighting extradition to South Africa.

He is currently being detained at a secure mental hospital and his case has been adjourned until next year.

Swedish-born Anni's father, Vinod Hindocha, has said that 'the story of his innocent daughter remains incomplete' unless Shiren faces trial. (ANI)
