Indian student missing in Manchester

An India student, who is studying at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), has been missing since Dec 31 as his father arrived here from India to help the search, reports said on Tuesday.

Bangalore boy Souvik Pal was last seen in a New Year eve party at the Warehouse Project nightclub in Manchester.

He went missing after becoming separated from his friends at the Warehouse Project nightclub last week.

The Manchester Police Department is searching for 19-year-old Souvik Pal after he was reported missing on last Tuesday.

Police divers have been searching the Bridgewater Canal near the club but the teenager remains missing.

"As per the latest report from the Manchester Police dept. they spoke to the member of staff from The Warehouse Project who ejected a male matching Souvik´s description," Pal's family friend Rudra Shankar Roy said in a statement.

"The CCTV has been viewed and the time of the ejection is 22.58 hours on 31.12.12. The Manchester police also reported to Souvik's father that, there is an external camera which shows the male they believed to be Souvik leave but it doesn´t show which direction he traveled in," Roy said.

"Police divers have been searching the Bridgewater Canal near the club but the teenager remains missing," Roy said.

Meanwhile, Pal's father, Santanu Pal, has reached Manchester this week.

Manchester Police Department official Anna Rickards earlier told Santanu Pal: "We have spoken to the member of staff from The Warehouse Project who ejected a male matching Souvik´s description. The CCTV has been viewed and the time of the ejection is 22.58 hours on 31.12.12.

"It can not be seen exactly if this is Souvik or not from the footage but the member of staff has been shown a photograph of Souvik and is sure that it is Souvik. This would also be consistent with the text message sent to Simon which said he had been kicked out of the club at 23.22 hours," Rickards said.

The official said: "The underwater search team are due to continue their search of the water ways around The Warehouse Project today."

"More CCTV viewings are due to do completed today. There is a vast amount of camera´s inside the club and around the local area," Anna said.

Santanu Pal has met the Vice Chancellor of MMU.

He has assured all support from MMU during Santanu Pal´s stay.

Roy said: "RR Swain from Indian high commission´s office, Birmingham, planning to meet Souvik's father today (Monday)."

Souvik Pal went to Manchester from Calcutta last summer to start his undergraduate degree.

He lived in Cavendish halls of residence on Cambridge Street, Manchester.
