Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday condemned the killing of two young constables by militants in Handwara town of Kupwara district.
Inspector General of Police (Kupwara Range), S.M. Sahai, said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has remained the target for years.
"Most of the time Jammu and Kashmir Police is targeted and similar incidents have taken place last year and this year also. The casualty of policemen is higher over the past many years. It shows that our force is successful. This success comes at a price," he said.
The incident took place at the Handwara bus stand where the two policemen were discharging their duties.
The constables, who were identified as Santosh Singh and Azad Chand, were declared dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The security forces have cordoned off the area where the incident took place. According to the police, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the attackers. (ANI)
