Jagan will withdraw bail pleas: Reports

Hyderabad: YSR Congress party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to withdraw his bail petition before the Supreme Court against an Andhra Pradesh High Court order in the disproportionate assets case that led to his arrest, according to media reports on Monday.

The Supreme Court was to hear the bail plea on Monday.

Jagan had sought relief from the Supreme Court earlier in the case after the high court did not grant him bail.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on July 4 dismissed the bail plea of Jagan who is languishing in jail in the disproportionate assets case since his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on May 27.

A Hyderabad court earlier had granted permission Jagan Mohan Reddy to vote in the Presidential election.

A special court in Hyderabad had also rejected the CBI's petition to conduct narco-analysis and other scientific tests on Jagan and his financial advisor Vijay Sai Reddy in connection with the disproportionate assets case.

The petition of the agency was dismissed on the ground that scientific tests, including the narco-analysis test, could not be conducted on the accused without his consent.

The probe agency wanted to conduct the tests as it argued that Jagan and Vijay did not cooperate with the sleuths during investigation.

Jagan and Vijay did not give the consent and argued that they do not have any more information to share with the CBI.

A court on June 1 had dismissed the interim bail plea of Jagan in connection with the case upholding the contention of the investigating agency that the petitioner may tamper with the evidence.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court ordered a CBI probe into Jagan's wealth on Aug 11, 2011 after Congress leader P Shankar Rao filed a written petition in Nov 2010 seeking it, terming his property as "ill-gotten".
