New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS) BJP leader Arun Jaitley's call records were accessed by a Delhi Police constable running a real estate business in Uttrakhand, for personal reasons, police said Saturday.

Jaitley's call records were accessed by 32-year-old Arvind Dabas to check his communication with an Uttrakhand leader who had assured him to settle his property deal in Uttrakhand through the senior BJP leader, police said.

Dabas who was arrested Friday for his alleged involvement in trying to access Jaitley's mobile call records, told investigators that a leader of Uttrakhand had assured him of providing money which was blocked in a real estate business in Uttrakhand, a senior officer said on condition of anonymity.

Dabas is running a real estate business with two other friends in Uttrakhand, but his money was blocked in a case. The leader assured him that his money will be given and his work will be done as he is well known to Jaitley.

In order to check the claim, whether the leader communicated with Jaitley regarding his work, Dabas tried to access the call records of Jaitley, but was caught when the telecom company, sensing some suspicious activity, contacted the Delhi Police officer whose e-mail ID was being used for seeking Jaitley's call record, said an officer.

Police registered a case a few days ago. Though Jaitley has not filed any complaint, police launched a probe to ascertain whether any official had sought details about his call records or if it was a case of impersonation.
