James Patterson, one of the world's leading thriller writers, is co-writing his new book with Ashwin Sanghi, the young award-winning author of Chanakya's Chant.
Random House India and Cornerstone, a division of Random House UK, have acquired rights to the new collaboration.
The book, Private India - the initial working title - will combine "the trademark suspense and fast-moving plots of Patterson's writing with the exhaustive research and gripping plots of Sanghi's thrillers", said Susan Sandon, managing director for Cornerstone.
The publication of Private India will follow a year of major promotional activity for Patterson in India, starting with the exclusive publication of a paperback format of the new Alex Cross - Patterson's most popular homicide detective character - series title in February, ahead of the hardback edition worldwide.
The collaboration is a title under Patterson's "Private" series of books.
In a statement, Patterson said: "Writing my Private series of books has given me the opportunity to work with local authors on thrillers set all over the world. With its vibrant and chaotic cities, rich history and heritage, there could be no better place to set the Private's next adventure than India. And with Ashwin Sanghi, with his wide historical knowledge and his love for a fast-paced plot, there could no better partner."
Sanghi said, "It was a privilege to co-write with Patterson who has sold more books than any other author round the world in the past three years".
