KR Narayanan (1920 – 2005)

From being the first Dalit President of India to perhaps the first President to refuse to go with the establishment, Kocheril Raman Narayanan was the most pro-active President India ever had. While serving as the symbol of empowerment of the oppressed classes, Narayanan also showed how the President’s office can take a giant leap out of its ceremonious status.
